In order to resolve cases of cybersquatting, ICANN has created a forced system of arbitration for certain domain names. Any dispute that may arise will be guided and governed by the Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy, or UDRP. The UDRP contains the substantive and formal rules of the process.
The process consists in the appointment of a panel of experts that will assess the situation and arguments presented by the parties (complainant or respondent). The domain name dispute process will determine who has legitimate interests over the domain, and if the disputed domain should forcibly be transferred to the complainant or canceled.
