What are the requirements for registering a .EDU domain?

In order to register a .EDU domain, the domain owner must meet the following requirements:
• The owner must be a US post-secondary institution accredited by an agency of the US Department of Education (You may find the list of accepted agencies here).
• The owner must be located within the United States (Including US territories and possessions); or
• The owner must be licensed, collegiate or incorporated within the United States (Including US territories and possessions); or
• The owner must be officially recognized either by a US state or by a federal government agency (including US territories and possessions).
Notes:
• Only 1 .EDU domain can be registered on behalf of each institution.
• If you do not meet these requirements, you can register here one of the related extensions that have no requirements (for example .EDUCATION, .UNIVERSITY, .INSTITUTE or .ACADEMY).
